Not all who wander are lost. Kamran, a Pakistani who dreams in a unique and different way than all of us. He is a cyclist, who traveled all the way from Germany to Pakistan on his bicycle and not just made a record by crossing 28 countries and covering 10,000 km distance just through paddling. Yes, this man never fails to astound us as we all know how difficult it gets to even think of moving from one city to another on a bicycle. Impossible right? And this guy traveled countries, leaving friends, family, and relatives, just carrying away his matter and soul on his bicycle, without fearing the lonely roads, the dark forests, the steep peaks, and the shallow valleys.
Kamran Khan, by nature, is adventurist but by profession, he is a known computer programmer. Layyah, Pakistan, the place he was born and raised in and later he moved to Nuremberg Germany and started working in a software firm, which exactly matches to his interest. Besides his professional indulgence, he is into photography and love capturing the world in his camera and his work was even exhibited at different places and he gained much appreciation.
Traveling on a bicycle was his passion and passions in always in the genes of a person. His passion was exposed when in his childhood, while he was aged 13, he carried away his two friends and traveled around 52 kilometers in a day around a town near Layyah. Then, in his teenage, he went to many cities alone on the paddle, without being affected by scorching summers and foggy winters. All he knew was to ride, crossing as many places as he could.
While leaving Pakistan, he was on his flight from Islamabad to Frankfurt, kept watching down from aircraft, all the vastness of the world, all the cities that he could barely see, all the people, their socials patterns, their cultures, their mindsets, their language and their way of living as well as the nature that makes this world, a beautiful place to live in, an urge to travel those places beneath, on his bicycle, captured his heart and mind so that journey became the reason for his bicycle ride when he moved all the way back to Pakistan from Germany on his two-wheeler-ride.
In 2011, he set off to Pakistan from Germany, in order to pursue his dream and no fear at that time could stop him from doing so. He traveled around 45,000 kilometers which took him 45 days and In those days, he almost crossed eight countries on his bicycle, capturing all the places in his camera and he was actually enjoying it. Mishaps can happen anywhere to anyone and in everyone’s so on his journey, when he was about to cross Sivas, in Turkey, he got the news that his mother got heart attack and she is hospitalized, so this made him think of quitting his bicycle ride and take a plane to reach his mother as soon as he can, as he was the only support system to his mom so he flew to Pakistan from Turkey and the bicycle too, flew from Istanbul to Pakistan with him.
Life is so uncertain and it leaves us helpless, crushing our dreams, making us fall on our knees even during those times when we are flying higher and couldn’t even think that any bad can ever strike us. So there came the day, September 17th, 2011, when his mom passed away. His world was shattered and he couldn’t think of continuing his dream to travel more places on his bicycle so he dedicated his bicycle tours made in the past to the passed-soul, his mom.
A few months later, he decided to continue the journey from the place where he left off and planned to explore more countries in future. Once on asking his views and suggestions for the rest of the bicycle riders who love travelling, he said: “Get out of your comfort zone and travel with an open heart and curious eyes even if you cannot travel abroad right now, travel within Pakistan as there is so much to see and explore”.
